Eleven employees will start work on new business models, focusing on hydrogen and innovative supply concepts.

Kallinchen, July 2019. The business development department at Energiequelle GmbH is growing steadily. The tenth employee was hired in May this year and there is one more position to be filled. The team’s task is to develop new energy supply solutions for the electricity, heat and transport sectors. This includes self-supply for industry and commerce as well as research and development of sustainable technologies, such as Power to X.

A winner of the BMWi ideas competition with the “Real Lab Reference Power Plant Lausitz”
Together with partners, Energiequelle GmbH is currently one of 20 winners in the “Real Laboratories of Energy Transition” ideas competition organized by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. With their pilot project “Reference Power Plant Lausitz”, a new, innovative type of power plant is to be created in the Schwarze Pumpe Industrial Park, which will temporarily store electricity from renewable energies in the form of hydrogen and make it available in line with demand in the electricity, transport and heating sectors. Initiator of this project is the Schwarze Pumpe industrial park with its partners, the mayors of the town of Spremberg (Mrs Christine Herntier) and the municipality of Spreetal (Mr Manfred Heine). In addition to Energiequelle GmbH, the University of Rostock with the Steinbeis Transfer Centre for Applied Research in Energy Technology led by Professor Weber, the Brandenburg Centre for Energy Technology, Siemens AG, Lausitzer Energie AG and Enertrag AG also played a key role in the development of the concept.

René Just, who is responsible for business development at Energiequelle GmbH, is proud of this success and is delighted to be working on this promising project: “With this reference project we can make CO2-free energy from wind and sun available at any time. This way, we hope to offer a technical concept for structural change in energy supply at the Schwarze Pumpe power plant site, which can in future be set up in the Lusatia region but also throughout Germany.”

Successful projects in recent years
In 2003, Energiequelle built Germany’s largest wind power substation to date with a rated output of 250 MVA, followed in 2005 by the longest 110 KV cable route in Germany at that time, at 35 km long. In 2009, the company developed Germany’s first energy self-sufficient village – Feldheim in Brandenburg is supplied with green electricity and green heat from the renewable energy plants located just down the road. Since 2017, a 10-MW battery storage facility has also been operated there. Visitors from all over the world travel to Feldheim to see the unique concept for themselves. The company was also closely involved in the “Grüner Lausitzring” (Green Lusatia ring) project.
