Wind Farm in Schleswig-Holstein Successfully Commissioned
Energiequelle Connects 28.5 MW to the Grid in Loop and Schönbek (Germany)Energiequelle has commissioned a new wind farm in the municipalites of Loop and Schönbek in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde (Germany). Five Nordex N149 wind turbines with a combined installed capacity of 28.5 MW will generate enough climate-friendly electricity to supply the equivalent of around 20,000 households while saving approximately 27,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
The turbines, each with a hub height of 125 metres, are located on two priority areas designated for wind energy development in the Schleswig-Holstein Regional Wind Energy Plan. The project received its permit in September 2023, followed by a successful bid from the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) for feed-in remuneration in December 2023. Construction commenced in August 2025, and despite challenging construction conditions during an unusually severe winter, the wind farm has now been successfully completed and brought into operation.
Anti-Collision System and Community Participation Through the Energiequelle Foundation
In addition to generating renewable electricity, the project sets high standards in environmental and wildlife protection. The wind farm is equipped with an anti-collision system that uses two camera-based monitoring systems to detect and analyse the flight paths of red kites and white-tailed eagles. If a potential collision risk is identified, the affected turbines are automatically shut down.
Strengthening regional value creation and community participation is also a key priority for Energiequelle. For this purpose, the company made a one-time contribution of € 175,000 per turbine to the Energiequelle Foundation, amounting to a total of € 875,000. These funds will be available for regional projects in the municipalities of Loop, Schönbek and Mühbrook, as well as for non-profit organisations, over a period of 20 years. Funding decisions will be made by a regional committee.
Furthermore, local residents were given the opportunity to benefit financially from the wind farm through a community investment scheme. Participation was possible with a minimum investment of just € 500, offering a fixed annual return of five percent over a five-year period. In this way, Energiequelle creates additional financial value for the region while strengthening local support for the energy transition.
Eva Sommer, Team Lead Project Management at Energiequelle GmbH, said: “We are convinced that this project is not only economically strong but will also provide a positive long-term contribution to the region and Germany’s energy transition. We would especially like to thank the municipalities of Loop, Schönbek and Hoffeld, as well as the Bordesholm administrative district, for their excellent and trusting cooperation throughout the entire project development and construction phase.”
With the commissioning of the wind farm, Energiequelle is strengthening regional energy supply in Schleswig-Holstein and demonstrating how close cooperation with local stakeholders can contribute to achieving Germany’s climate and energy goals.
