Success through cooperation
In the Feldheim district of the Brandenburg town of Treuenbrietzen, one of the most spectacular overall concepts for a decentralized, renewable energy supply for companies, private households and municipalities has been implemented. The success of this project is due to the good and cooperative partnership between the city of Treuenbrietzen, the residents of the district and the project developer Energiequelle.
The individually connected households in the Treuenbrietzen district of Feldheim are supplied with electricity and heat from renewable energy plants located “on their doorstep” via separate distribution networks. Energiequelle GmbH planned the components of this concept – modern, state-of-the-art wind energy and biogas plants – and built turnkey plants that are linked to a regional energy supply grid via the newly constructed distribution system.

Our success in Feldheim
- Power supply from a wind farm with a total of over 60 turbines
- Research: Feldheim in isolated operation using an energy store
- Heat from a biogas plant
- Additional coverage of heating needs through a woodchip heating plant
- and a power-to-heat system

Security even at peak times
The nearby wind farm provides the backbone of the local electricity supply, while heat is supplied by the local biogas plant. A modern woodchip heating plant is available to cover additional heating needs on particularly cold days.

Independence through a private network
The special feature of the Feldheim concept is the separate local heating and power supply network, through which the heat and electricity generated on site is supplied directly to the consumers. This avoids costs and dependencies on the networks of traditional energy suppliers.

Funding through collective effort
The owner of the local heating network is Feldheim Energie GmbH & Co. KG, a company formed by the households and businesses connected to the network, as well as the town of Treuenbrietzen. The separate electricity grid supplying the connected end users is owned by Energiequelle GmbH & Co. WP Feldheim 2006 KG, the company that operates the wind farm.
The high level of investment required for the construction of the separate electricity and heating supply networks could not be met by the municipality and residents alone. Additional funds from the state of Brandenburg and EU funding programs were therefore used.
